Salmon Faverolles are my favorite breed of chickens, not only for their color but for their even-tempered personality. The Faverolles has an interesting background. It is a French breed of chicken, compiled from a mix of Houdans, Dorkings and Asiatics. They were bred for the purpose of a heavy table meat bird and winter layer. They are the only French breed of chicken that lays a tinted cream colored egg--all other French breeds lay white eggs. They are also one of the few breeds that has five toes. The Faverolles is a good show bird for the reason that they are so calm and only take a little handling to get them used to being held. The one draw back to showing these birds is that their feathers are longer than most birds and it can take up to a year for damaged feathers to grow back. However I haven't had any trouble so far with the feathers, as long as you keep them in a clean area and the roosters separated. The hens are docile and won't pull out each others feathers. The Salmon Faverolles were admitted to the standard in 1914.

Skye

Welcome to Skye's chicks!
I have started a flock of standard Salmon Faverolles and white bearded bantam Sikies. My goals for this site is to help 4-Hrs (like myself) with showing Faverolles and Silkies. I have had some experience showing Salmon Faverolles, but I am somewhat new to Silkies. I am hoping this site will be help to those showing birds, as well as looking into the breed backgrounds of the Faverolles and Silkie lines. I will be working on breeding to the standard both breeds and hope to have good quality chicks and hatching eggs coming this fall. My birds come from good breeding and show lines and are showing good prospective breeding and showing traits.

Here are some pictures of my current birds. The Faverolles are around six months. The Silkies range from 1-6 months old.
